The Seventy Disciples

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

I was reading Luke 10:1-24 and was wondering who were the seventy. Who were these seventy disciples? Do we know anything about them as to their names or anything for that matter?

A. The seventy, or seventy two in some early manuscripts, are not named and so we don’t know anything about them on a personal level. Only Luke mentions them, and only in chapter 10. Certainly they became part of the Early Church and helped spread the gospel.
