Please Explain Genesis 3:15

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Can you please explain the following verse regarding God’s prophesy about Eve in Genesis 3:15 to me please?

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

Can you please explain the following verse regarding God’s prophesy about Eve in Genesis 3:15 to me please?

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

A. This is the first promise of the Messiah, saying that an offspring of the woman’s would be the serpent’s undoing. From your knowledge of human reproduction you can see a hint of the virgin birth here, as the seed is normally a male’s contribution to reproduction, the woman’s being the egg. Although the Messiah would not escape uninjured from the battle, the serpent would suffer a fatal blow.
