Anointing The Temple

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Can you explain how Jesus is going to anoint the Most Holy Place in a future Jewish temple? I am just wondering because it I thought He already did that nearly 2000 years ago.

Q. In your article, “The 70 Weeks of Daniel” you say, “He will anoint the most Holy Place and receive all the honor, glory and blessing the Scriptures promised Him.”

Can you explain how Jesus is going to anoint the Most Holy Place in a future Jewish temple? I am just wondering because it I thought He already did that nearly 2000 years ago.

A. While He taught in the Temple courts, Jesus never entered the Temple itself since being of the tribe of Judah, He wasn’t authorized. And He certainly was not authorized to anoint the Temple. Only the High Priest could do that.

At His 2nd Coming the Levitical Priesthood will be eclipsed by the order of Melchizedek, although one family of Levites, that of Zadok, will still have a position of prominence in the Temple.(Ezek. 44:15-16)

Jesus is the High Priest of the order of Melchizedek (Hebr. 7-8) and will be authorized to anoint the Temple.
