Was There Death Before Sin?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

What verse or verses in the Bible indicate that there was no death before Adam sinned? What about Christ being slain from before the foundations of the earth?

Q. What verse or verses in the Bible indicate that there was no death before Adam sinned? What about Christ being slain from before the foundations of the earth?

A. In Romans 5:12 Paul said, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned.”

The idea of Jesus being slain from the foundation of the earth (Rev. 13:8) speaks of the timelessness of His decision to die for us, not the act itself which was accomplished in 32AD. 1 Peter 1:20 says “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.” I think that conveys the idea more clearly.
