What Does "Another Gospel" Mean?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

My brother who is of the Pentacostal persuasion, which I am not, keeps talking to me of another gospel that is being taught by (a well known evangelist). I don’t have a clue as to what he is talking about.

Q. I have a question regarding the difference between the “regular gospel” that states that if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Son of God, died for our sins, rose again, you will be saved, and something called “another gospel”.

My brother who is of the Pentacostal persuasion, which I am not, keeps talking to me of another gospel that is being taught by (a well known evangelist). I don’t have a clue as to what he is talking about. I thought there is one gospel that has worked for 2000 years and what is this new gospel. Please help me to have answers to my brother’s prodding.

A. The phrase “another gospel” sometimes called “a different gospel” comes from Galatians 1:8 where Paul wrote:

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!”

Some Christians use this phrase to describe the message of someone they believe to be a false teacher.
