Is It All Or Nothing?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Is salvation dependent on believing that the Bible is completely true? For example, is it important that I believe that Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale and spit back out? Or that Moses actually parted the Red Sea?

Q. Is salvation dependent on believing that the Bible is completely true? For example, is it important that I believe that Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale and spit back out? Or that Moses actually parted the Red Sea?

A. The only thing required of us for salvation is believing that when Jesus died on the cross, He was dying for our sins and offering to become our Savior if we agree to let Him. (John 3:16)

But the Bible is God’s Word, given to us so we can come to know Him. If we reject some of His word, aren’t we saying that we don’t really trust Him to be truthful with us?

If we don’t believe He can do some of the things He claimed to do, how can we believe we’re saved? After all we have only His word on that.
