When Was Meat First Allowed?

I just started to reread the Bible and was surprised to find that we were not given the animals for food as I had understood for all these years:

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. Gen. 1:29

When were we allowed to start eating meat?

A. According to Genesis 9:3-4 meat was introduced into the human diet after the flood.

Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.
