The Apostles’ Creed

When a Catholic (or Episcopalian) recites the Apostles Creed, and sincerely means it, wouldn’t that be the same as the profession we make to be Born Again?

Q. I have a question which is very close to home for me:

When a Catholic (or Episcopalian) recites the Apostles Creed, and sincerely means it, wouldn’t that be the same as the profession we make to be Born Again. If a person believes Christ is the Son of God and came into this world to save us from our sins, and asks for forgiveness, would the formalities of their church services matter with respect to someone being called up in the Rapture?

A. The so-called Apostles’ Creed was an effort by the early church to develop a standardized statement that would define Christian beliefs. As I read it, there’s nothing in the Apostles’ Creed that constitutes a personal confession of sin and a request to be saved from the consequences thereof. Therefore I don’t believe it can suffice as a sinners prayer or in and of itself qualify a person for inclusion in the Rapture.
