Locating The Garden Of Eden

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. My question today is in regards to the Garden of Eden. I heard a well known bible teacher say that Jerusalem is or can be the same place where God established Eden. He made some interesting parallels like In Genesis 2:8 where it states that God planted a garden toward the east of Eden (parallel) east from the Temple mount is the Garden of Gethsemane and the Mount of olives. What are your thoughts on if Jerusalem is Eden?

A. The Garden of Eden was irrigated by four rivers.  (Gen. 2:10-14)Two of these are known to us as the Tigris and the Euphrates and flow well east of Jerusalem. The other two are unknown and may flow underground.  It must have been huge, possibly covering much of the Middle East. Jewish tradition has it centered in Jerusalem, Iraqis claim it for their country, and Turkey and Armenia also have traditions locating it in their countries.  They all could be right, but no one knows for sure.
