What About The Emerging Church?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

My question is, do you see this movement tied in the end times deception, or one of the 7 churches in Rev 2 & 3, or just a distraction that will soon fade away

Q. I’m interested in your perspective on the “emerging church”, and “new Christianity”, etc, that we see coming from the ’seeker friendly’ church movement. I believe that what is ‘new’ is not true and what is true is not new.

My question is, do you see this movement tied in the end times deception, or one of the 7 churches in Rev 2 & 3, or just a distraction that will soon fade away?

A. It’s definitely not a distraction that will soon fade away. 2 Timothy 4:3 says “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” The emerging church is showing signs of fulfilling this prophecy.

In many ways it also fits the description of the seventh church of Revelation 3:14-21, the church in Laodicea, which I believe is a prophecy of the apostate church at the end of the age. Financially rich but spiritually poor, they are “wretched, pitiful, poor , blind and naked.” And though the Lord stands at the door and knocks, they can barely hear Him. He would gladly come in if invited, but alas He’s been left outside.
