Where Is Judas?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. Sorry, but I know once saved always is not true. Judas was a follower of God.  Is he in heaven or hell?

A. I’ll let the Lord answer this one for Himself.

Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil! (John 6:70)

At this point while all of the disciples were followers of Jesus, none were truly believers.  They didn’t receive the Holy Spirit until after Judas was dead. But even then the Lord knew who were His and who was not.  The inclusion of Judas among the disciples was to fulfill the prophecy that one of the Messiah’s friends would betray Him (Psalm 41:9) for 30 pieces of silver (Zech 11:12-13).

The story of Judas cannot be used to deny the clear promises of our security in the Lord. But there is a lesson here.  Even today many who claim to be followers of Jesus will discover after the Rapture that they weren’t believers.

By the way, as the rope tightened around his neck if Judas asked for forgiveness with his last breath, then he received it and would be in Heaven.  Only the Lord knows.
