What About The Law?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

what is the present status of the Law; usually known as the Mosaic Law, to a NT believer (and a non-believer)?

Q. You mentioned in one of your writings that there are 613 basic laws. I believe, for salvation, no law is required but only by grace through faith we are saved. (But, do not kill, do not covet, do not steal, etc., are still valid in our lives, right?)

So, what is the present status of the Law; usually known as the Mosaic Law, to a NT believer (and a non-believer)?

A. Jesus said that he didn’t come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it.(Matt. 5:17) Every detail of the law remains in force, but His death protects believers from the consequences of violating it. Non-believers are still liable under the law and if they die without accepting the Lord’s pardon will be held accountable for every violation.
