Israel And The 2nd Coming

Q. I’m thinking there is a scripture in the Bible that talks about once Israel becomes a nation or has possession of their land that not a generation will pass before the coming of the Lord. Is this true and if so where can I find it?
A. Many scholars believe that the re-birth of Israel in 1948 was the first major end times sign.  In effect, Matt. 24:34 says that the generation being born at that time will still be alive when the Lord returns.  That doesn’t mean that the Lord will return within a generation, which is 40 years.  It means that the Lord will return within the lifetime of the generation being born.  A Biblical lifetime is about 70 years.
