Wiping Away Our Tears

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. The Scriptures say that there will be no tears in Heaven.  What will happen to our memories then?  If someone I loved turned out not to be a believer and I knew they didn’t get to Heaven, I don’t think I could take it.

A. Take heart. Isaiah 65:17 says, “Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.”

To me this means that when we’re made new, all of our regrets, our sadness, and our sorrows will be wiped away.  This could happen either through understanding as God understands, or by having all of our old unpleasant memories erased.

Either way, anything that could preclude our experiencing absolute joy in our new surroundings will be taken away.
