The 7 Years Of Daniel And The 42 Months Of Revelation

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. The Lord’s richest blessing on you for your teaching and guidance given to many believers. In Daniel the prophet speaks of the anti-Christ making a covenant for one week—7 years, but in Revelation John speaks of power was given to the anti-Christ for 42 months. What happened re the other 42 months to make seven years?

A. The covenant that the anti-Christ makes with Israel is called The 70th week of Daniel.  It’s a seven year period set aside for Israel to bring the 6000 years of Human history to a close.  The 42 months of Revelation, also described as 3 1/2 years, and 1260 days, is the duration of the Great Tribulation, the last half of Daniel’s 70th week.

It begins when the anti-Christ stands in the Temple and declares that he’s God (2 Thes. 2:4).  It’s an event known as the  Abomination of Desolation.  Daniel says that it’ll happen in the middle of the 70th week (Daniel 9:27), and Jesus said it will begin the Great Tribulation (Matt 24:15,21)

So the anti-Christ will make a 7 year covenant with Israel that will appear to bring them peace.  But in the middle of it he will stand in the Temple and proclaim that he’s God.  At that time he’ll betray Israel and in Satan’s power will do his best to destroy the Jews once and for all.  Of course he’ll fail and the Lord will emerge victorious.
