Who Is Our Accuser?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. Can you please explain why satan was called the accuser? Who is the accused? What is he accusing about and does he still has that privilege to accuse anyone when he was already expelled from heaven?

A. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:  “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ.  For the accuser of our brothers,  who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.” (Rev. 12:9-10)

The voice in Heaven said that Satan is our accuser.  He makes sure that God is always aware of our sins. He won’t be cast out of Heaven until just before the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
