Playing In The Spirit

Q. Thank you for an amazing website!  So many things have been made clearer to me because of it.  I was reading 1 Chronicles 25 this morning and the words “who were to prophesy with lyres, harps and cymbals” caught my attention.  Can you explain how to prophesy with music?

A. The Hebrew word translated prophesy in 1 Chronicles 25:1-3 is “naba”.  It also means to be under the influence of the Divine Spirit.  Today we would say the musicians were “playing in the Spirit”.
