Will We Know What’s Happening?

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. Thanks again for your website and all of your work, I have told many about it and they have thanked me for bringing their attention to it.

My questions is about the Rapture and how it will be viewed by believers who go and unbelievers who stay.  In 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Paul states that at the moment of the  Rapture there will be a loud shout, the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God and then the dead in Christ will rise followed by those believers who remain alive at the Rapture.  In 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 it states that it will all be in the twinkling of an eye.

Will we who are taken in the Rapture have time during the shout, the voice and the trumpet realize what is happening for a short time (seconds) then be taken in the twinkling of an eye or will it all happen so fast that it is just a twinkling of an eye and we will not realize it but be instantaneously with Christ in Heaven?  At the Rapture will the unsaved hear the shout, the voice of the archangel and the trumpet or will they just notice that many of us are gone?

Q. There’s no way to know for sure, but I believe we’ll be here on Earth with no awareness of what’s happening in one instant and with the Lord in the next.  If unbelievers hear anything at all it won’t be sufficient for them to connect it to our disappearance.
