Understanding The Bible

Posted in: Ask a Bible Teacher

Q. Why is so much of the Bible hard to understand?  Not impossible but hard!  My prayerful conclusion was that it was meant to be that way by GOD.  If the Bible read like a long list of rules or a consise way to live your life from A to Z  where would be the passion that comes from studying the word?  Would people dedicate their entire lives to learning scripture?

I believe the truth is there in black and white for all to see, but you must look, and learn, and appreciate the gifts God has in store for us. Then we can understand.   In no way am I saying you have to learn and know it all, to the contrary, God gave us a path straight to him through his son. All he requires of us is that we accept his gift. Like anything else in life, if you really love something you want to learn all you can about it, exaust every resource. I believe that is what God would like to see of us!

A. God said we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart (Jer. 29:13).  I think this applies to  discovering all the nuances of His character,  not just learning about His salvation.  The more we study the more we learn about Him, the more we’ll love Him, and the stronger our faith will grow.  Theologians often describe this stronger faith as His reward to the diligent student.
