Did Jesus Visit Hell?

Q

Love your website, I don’t know if this question has been asked before, sorry if it has.

After Jesus was crucified and before he was resurrected, did He go down and visit Hell?
I have heard that in the past and wondered if you could explain to me where Jesus was (his spirit) at the time between burial and resurrection.

Thank you so much and God Bless your ministry.

In Matt. 12:40 Jesus said he’d be in the belly of the Earth for 3 days and 3 nights. In Luke 23:43 he told the man dying next to Him, “Today you’ll be with me in Paradise.” 1 Peter 3:19 tells us that He preached to the spirits in prison who had disobeyed God during the time of the flood.

Put all these together and it appears that Jesus went to Sheol, called Hades in Greek, the abode of the dead. Paradise was one part of Sheol where the faithful dead were comforted by Abraham. Jesus took them to heaven with Him after His Resurrection. Torments is the other part of Sheol where the unfaithful await the judgment of the dead at the end of the Millennium. This is probably where Jesus preached to the disobedient spirits. To learn more about the abode of the dead, read the story of the Rich man and Lazarus, Luke 16:19-31.
