Does God Function That Way?

Q

I have a disabled son. He has a variety of problems. It seems new “conditions” keep getting added on. We have prayed for years for healing, but he just gets worse. A family member told me; “God’s plan for your son is a short life full of pain but He has a purpose in that pain”. Does God function that way?

A

The person who told you this should be ashamed for presuming to speak for the Lord by saying something that violates His character. In Exodus 20:6 He promised to show His love to 1000 generations of those who love Him. In Isaiah 53:4 He said He took up our infirmities and carried our pain. John 3:16 says He loves us enough to die for us so we can live with Him. And in John 10:10 He said, “I have come so they might have life and have it abundantly.” Does this sound like someone who would intentionally inflict a lifetime of pain on one of His children?

People like this refuse to blame Satan, the one who is really responsible for all the pain and suffering in the world, and instead they blame God. They draw their conclusions based only on what they see, when the Bible tells us to live by faith, not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7).
