First Communion

Q

As parents of two young children (ages 10 & 7), we are seeking guidance on the best way to introduce our children to communion. Our family does not attend a brick & mortar church weekly. Instead, we choose to worship together each day, so thankful for the gift of salvation that God gave us through His son, Jesus Christ.

A

If your children are old enough to understand the sin/salvation issue and are born again then it’s a simple matter to take them through the Lord’s supper (communion) ceremony to show them what the bread and wine represent and why it’s an important memorial to what the Lord has done for us. I think Paul’s version in 1 Cor. 11:23-26 is a good one to use.

Remember that this is a memorial for believers only (1 Cor. 11:28-29) so if your children don’t know the Lord yet, begin there.
