Forgiving Myself

Q

I have been troubled for quite some time. I committed the sin of fornication before I married the man I’m now with although I’ve confessed my guilt and sin to God time and time again I still feel at times some regret over this sin in my life and feel unworthy. Please help! What can I do to completely let go of this regret.

A

If you’ve asked the Lord to forgive you, then He has. He can do this because every sin of your life was paid for at the cross (Colossians 2:13-14). Therefore if we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Since He has forgiven you, the regret you feel is due to the fact that you haven’t forgiven yourself. The enemy is using this against you to make you feel unworthy. Rebuke these thoughts of unworthiness in the name of Jesus. Submit yourself to God and receive His forgiveness. Feel it wash over you, cleansing you. Resist the enemy and He will flee from you (James 4:7).
