Did Israel defy a biblical warning with Egypt in the brokered Hamas Peace Deal? Of course, Hamas have said before that these peace deals are only for them to regroup and rearm for battle. What is your take on the warning to Israel about Egypt?
After the Northern Kingdom was defeated by Assyria, Judah had a treaty for a time with Egypt as protection against something similar happening to them. The Lord responded as follows:
“Woe to the obstinate children,” declares the LORD, “to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection, to Egypt’s shade for refuge. But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame, Egypt’s shade will bring you disgrace.” (Isaiah 30:1-3)
Many see Israel’s current reliance on Egypt to protect the Gaza border in the same light. Like before, Israel is not in covenant with the Lord and is relying on neighboring nations for security. This plan will fail just as it did in the past and Israel will be left with only the Lord as protection. It will take the Battle of Ezekiel 38 for that to become obvious to Israel.
