Going Back In Time?
Q. I just discovered your site a little while ago and it is such a blessing.
My question is, since God is outside of time, can I pray that someone who has passed away, be saved? I mean could God take my prayer in the present time and apply it backwards in time, so to speak? The person has passed away but God sees them or can see them still alive somewhere in time. Could He apply my prayer that they be saved? It’s my Mom I’m thinking about, she passed away before I became born again. I hope and I feel like she must have made a decision for Christ sometime in her life, but I sure would love to see her in heaven.
A. God is outside of time, but man is not. Man was given life solely to afford him the opportunity of choosing to accept the Lord’s pardon and receive eternal life with God. After we die it’s too late to change our destiny. For man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
Besides, no one can facilitate another person’s salvation. We can pray that they will ask for it, but they have to ask and they have to ask during their lifetime. But as you say she could have made her decision for the Lord unbeknown to you. If she did, you’ll see her in Heaven, but if she didn’t, the Lord will wipe away any sadness you might have felt about it. (Isaiah 65:17 & Rev. 21:4)
