Healing The Child Of An Unbeliever
Q. My question concerns a dear friend who is an unbeliever, not an atheist, but agnostic, I believe. Her little 3 year old was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. He is a beautiful little boy. I am at a loss as to how to handle this or help. Other believing Christians have told me to pray but I ignorantly admit, I do not know what or how to pray for this. I know God’s will for believers. We were all healed at the cross by His stripes. I have experienced this myself to some extent. But what about children of unbelievers? If God saves the little children, will He not also heal them?
A. I would pray that God’s will would be done for this child and for his parents. I’ve seen children healed, and I’ve seen families brought to a saving faith through the terminal illness of a child. From an eternal perspective either of these outcomes is a blessing. Be sure to remind your friend that God does not cause disease. It’s one of the consequences of sin in the world, and unfortunately the innocent also suffer. But even the children of unbelievers belong to God and go to be with Him if they die.
