How Do I Become Saved?

Q

How do I become saved? What study bible do you recommend? My parents are Mormons and how do I witness to Mormons? But first I need to be saved.

A

You get saved by agreeing that you’re a sinner in need of a Savior, believing in your heart that Jesus died to pay the penalty for all your sins (Colossians 2:13-14) and rose again (Romans 10:9), and asking Him to be your Savior (Matt. 7:7-8). When you do that, God will seal the Holy Spirit within you as a deposit guaranteeing your inheritance (Ephes. 1:13-14) and you’ll be saved forever.

Study Bibles are a matter of personal preference. There is no single one that can meet all your needs. Research a few on line and then go to a Bible Book store and browse through the ones you like. Remember, the study notes are written by men and are not equal to God’s word.

As for witnessing to Mormons, you’re correct. First you need to be saved. But second you need to be sure that God has called you to the task. Right now your best witnessing tool is the evidence of how being saved has changed your life. Getting into a debate over religion is not good for a new believer. You need to be sure about what you believe and why you believe it. Right now others know more about their beliefs than you know about yours. Remember, after Paul was converted he spent three years in personal study with the Lord before he began speaking to others about his faith (Galatians 1:15-20).
