How Do We Know We’re Right?
Q. Recent conversation with friends. The typical “why do you believe” question. Being a fairly “new” person of faith and understanding, it was a difficult question to answer. Their comments are there are “many” faiths, and who am I to say “Christ” is the only way. Well, I told them, that that is directly from the “word of God”. Then it went into, how do I know it really is the “word” of God. And on and on. Can you help direct me?
A. The answer is simpler than you might expect and can be given in one word: prophecy. Of all the so called holy writings, only one validates itself, proving that it’s authentic. And that’s the Bible. God has an unbroken string of prophecies that have been given in advance and then fulfilled just as they were given that stretches over 6000 years. No other book can make that claim. Anyone who will put aside their pre-conceived notions and undertake an unbiased study of Old Testament prophecy can prove God’s existence beyond a shadow of doubt within a few hours. As God had Isaiah write,
“I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.” (Isaiah 46:9-10) No other so-called deity can make that claim.
