Limiting Family Size

My husband and I are considering having our son be our only child. Some people in our families are suggesting that choosing to have only one child goes against God’s will. What are your thoughts on this topic? I looked through your site somewhat and cannot find anything on this.

A. There is scriptural evidence that a large family is a blessing from the Lord. But the only clear teaching I know of on family size is the prohibition against murdering your children. Since the Bible says that life begins at conception, the conscious termination of a pregnancy as a means of limiting family size is forbidden. I suggest you involve the Lord in your decision through prayer by stating your desire, and asking Him to give you a clear indication if it’s His will that you have more than one child. That way you won’t have to wonder.
