More On Those Who Say They Are Jews But Are Not

Q

Although I really enjoyed your posting, I have a question that has always bothered me. If God destroyed all mankind with the flood and only saved Noah and his family…then aren’t we all really descendants from Noah, which in turn would make all of us part Jewish?

A

It’s true, everyone alive today is related to one of Noah’s sons. But remember, the Lord didn’t identify the Jewish race until several hundred years later when He called Abraham (Gen 12:1-3). From then on descendants of Abraham were called Hebrews and later Jews. And Paul wrote, “A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.” (Romans 2:28-29) He was saying that even people who are born Jewish and claim to practice the Jewish religion may not really be Jews in God’s sight. They have to be Jewish in their heart as well. Eventually the only Jewish people left will be those who believe Jesus is their Messiah.
