The Financial Burden Is Too Heavy

Q

God bless you with your website and your talent as a teacher. I have learned a great deal. A few years ago, I had a strong desire to own my own restaurant. To make a long story short, it did not do well. Our debts seem insurmountable, but my wife and I did not want to file bankruptcy, although it was very tempting. Some days, the burden seems so, so heavy. We do tithe monthly, and would like to do more, but there is nothing left. I have prayed for God to lighten our load many times. We have absolutely nothing left at the end of the month. What more can we do to find favor with our Lord, Jesus Christ?

A

I commend you for your perseverance and remind you that you have found favor with the Lord. You can trust Him to be with you every step of the way. If the burden seems too heavy, remember He’s offered to give you rest (Matt. 11:28).

As I look back on my own life, I see that the times when I’ve felt overwhelmed were because I was trying to make everything happen in my own strength and didn’t believe I could pull it off. When I began a day by day process of giving the outcome to the Lord, I soon became more relaxed and more confident of a favorable outcome.

I know from experience this is easier said than done, but the secret is to take one day at a time making minute by minute decisions to trust the Lord for the outcome. Remember, He’s working all things together for your good (Rom. 8:28) and having begun a good work in you He will be faithful to complete it (Phil. 1:6).
