Thrones

Q

I am in 2 Bible Studies at Church – one in Matthew and the another in Revelations. We ran across this verse in Matthew 19:28, and I do not know what the 12 thrones refer to. In Rev.4, I found 24 Thrones for the 24 Elders. Are the 12 Thrones in Matthew part of the 24 in Revelations 4 – or are they different ? We also discussed by 12, if there was only 11 Disciples left, after Judas. I appreciate your Biblical expertise on this question.

A

The 12 thrones upon which the disciples will sit in judgment of Israel (Matt. 19:28) will be on Earth because that’s where Israel will be. I believe either Matthias, elected to replace Judas (Acts 1:26), or more likely Paul, who was God’s choice (1 Cor. 1:1), will occupy the 12th throne.

The 24 thrones upon which the elders will sit are in Heaven at the throne of God (Rev. 4:4). Therefore they are different.
