What’s A Christian?

Q

Are Mormons Christians?

A

Good question. Here’s another one. Are all Christians Christian? And the answer to both is, “It depends on your definition of Christian.”

Let’s assume you define a Christian as someone who is saved by grace alone through faith in the blood of Jesus and is born again to eternal life. If that’s what you mean, then following official Mormon doctrine alone won’t make you a Christian, and neither will following official Liberal Protestant doctrine alone , or following official Catholic doctrine alone. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

That said I believe there are untold numbers of Mormons, Liberal Protestants and Catholics who are saved because they disregard parts of the official doctrines and in their hearts depend solely on the Lord’s completed work on their behalf.
