Why Can’t I Evangelize?
I am a totally born again, sold out to God Christian. I know in my heart that Jesus is coming back soon. As a matter of fact I can hardly think of anything else. I daydream about being able to boldly witness to so many people that God puts on my heart and I just lose courage.
Q. I am a totally born again, sold out to God Christian. I know in my heart that Jesus is coming back soon. As a matter of fact I can hardly think of anything else. I daydream about being able to boldly witness to so many people that God puts on my heart and I just lose courage. I do pray for their salvation. I cannot seem to even find doors open long enough to share with my teenage and adult children. I really have been trying to live my life full of the love of Christ, but if they do not understand that that is what motivates me what good is it?
I am so discouraged about this. I continue to humbly bring this before the Lord, confessing my fear. I do not want to stand before the Lord and have Him say that I was ashamed of Him, so he is ashamed of me. I would so appreciate your counsel and prayers about this.
A. I think the first thing to do is to ask the Lord if you’re called to evangelize. It may be that your gift is really intercession, the praying that you’re intuitively doing. Both are effective methods for bringing people to the Lord. He doesn’t expect us to do all things, just those He’s called us to do.
I personally do not look for opportunities to share the Gospel unless it’s within the framework of my giftedness, teaching. I don’t have any problem giving an altar call when I’m teaching in a group setting, or when I’m asked a question about the Gospel. But I don’t normally insert myself into conversations or approach strangers on the street to witness to them. I don’t think I’m gifted in that area.
If you feel that God has called you to evangelize, then ask Him for the strength and courage to do so, and consider that your hesitancy might actually be a roadblock the enemy has placed before you. The Lord will reveal all these things to you as you offer your whole being as a living sacrifice to Him. (Romans 12:2) Be patient, and don’t worry. The Lord is not ashamed of you.
