Zombies In Matt. 27?

Q

A young man I sometimes see at work asked me “Is it true there are zombies in the Bible”? He was referring to Matthew 27:51-53. I read it to him and did my best to explain. How would you have done it?

A

I suppose it makes sense that with the current Zombie craze, someone would eventually ask a question like this.

We’ll set aside the argument over whether zombies are fictional or real. According to the dictionary, a zombie is the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.

Compare that to what we know about a resurrection body, which is alive, immortal, fully functional, having both spirit and soul, and fit to dwell in the presence of God forever.

In addition, Matt 27:51-53 speaks of holy people, not walking dead. It does not describe zombies.
