Becoming As Perfect As God Is

Q. A member of our church says that Matthew 5:48 says that we are perfect once we are saved.  I understand that that verse says that we should strive to be perfect; our goal is to be perfect like Jesus. Which is it?

Walking In The Light But Still Sinning

Q. 1 John 1:5-10 seems to contradict itself. At one point it talks about walking in the light and if we say we have fellowship with Him but walk in the darkness we are liars then it says if we have no sin we are deceiving ourselves, what do these verses mean?

Knowing What We Believe And Why

Q. Quoting you, “The best defense is to know what you believe and why, and be able to articulate it when confronted with these attacks.”  While I don’t believe I’m all that articulate, I do know what I believe but I don’t know the answer to “why” I believe – I just believe.  What is the answer?

Do The Things You Did At First

Q. I can look back over my christian life and can see how much I’ve grown in my knowledge of scripture. But recently, I’ve noticed that there is something missing now. I prayed about it and God revealed that it is my intimacy with Him that’s missing. I can remember when I was younger in the faith and didn’t know as much as I have learned over the years, but I was so passionate and Christ felt as close as ever! Now I’m not even sure how to get that passion and intimacy back. It feels as if I’m at a standstill. I confess my sins daily. What do you think? How do I get that closeness back with my Savior?

Salvation And Surrender

Q. I have a question regarding salvation and belief vs surrendering your life to God.  Is surrendering something you do out of gratification? And why do some churches say you must surrender your life when you are saved? I believe choosing to surrender your life is an on going process because people will have a hard time surrendering everything all at once. Ive been a christian awhile and still hold onto things and won’t give them up to God because its hard to do so.

Is Sharing Virtual Property A Sin?

Q.  I know that stealing a physical item is a sin, but if it is a tv show that some one records and shares online, or some one shares music files, online is that a sin?  It is virtual files not physical.  So many people download music online, very big percentage I believe, what do you think about this?

Simple Prayers

Q. Occasionally, some need or situation will arise and I’ll feel a real intense need to stop everything and pray.  After a few seconds, that sense will vanish.  Once when this happened I kept praying, but it felt forced.  At this point, the scripture came to mind, “don’t keep babbling like a pagan, the father is not impressed with your countless words”.  So I stopped and went back to reading my Bible.  Can you help me with this, or share some insight?

Women In The Church

Q. I have just read the posts regarding headcovering and it has raised a question in my mind.  When I was born again, I was set free from sin by grace through faith.  So why am I now being loaded down with rules set by men ie headcovering as an example.  Christ did not teach that women had to cover their heads or that women could not teach or preach so far as I am aware. I am not saying that neither Paul nor Timothy did not have justification for what they said, but is there not a question of culture and just plain disrespect for others here?  Please explain why our Lord treated everyone with love and respect including women and yet pastors/elders use these things to keep women quiet.

Am I Messing With Grace?

Q. My question is about salvation. I know I am saved by God’s grace thru faith in what Christ accomplished on the cross. But how do we separate law and grace?  Spiritually speaking we want to do what we know we should do, but how do we avoid applying that to our salvation? I am still wrestling with someone who I believe is Satan throwing everything at me he can to make me question everything that I have known all my life. It makes me question my motives to do “good” and even my salvation because I know I can do nothing to merit it but then how do I go on living “right” without messing with grace?

Respect For Celestial Beings

Q. The archangel Michael “dared not” bring a “railing accusation” against Satan.  He spoke politely and commended him to God to deal with him.  Yet, I have heard/read Christian ministers speak harshly, rudely, to curse and abuse and rail against, Satan.  Why did the mighty Michael not dare to accuse Satan openly?  What were the dynamics of that interaction?
By the same token, how was the Prince of Persia able to withstand the Archangel, the messenger sent by Almighty God Himself, for 21 days?  These are powerful beings.  What should be the attitude of a Christian toward Satan, himself?  How does God instruct us about that?
