Generational Curses

Q. My question today is about generational curses. I myself do not agree that generational curses are scriptural; I know that in Exodus 20:5 it states “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;” Preachers/Teachers have used this scripture to build this doctrine, but they always leave out the part about “of them that hate me;”… When I put Ezekiel 18:20-22 together with this scripture to me it is clear that generational curses are not Biblically sound, what are your thoughts? Who’s Responsible?

Q. I was teaching a Sunday school class for adults yesterday and two very difficult subjects came up. One person asked me if Satan did not tempt Adam and Eve in the garden, could they have eventually sinned on their own. The second was a statement that all sins are a result of Satan or his demons tempting us. My position was that we are sometimes tempted of our own desires, but this was not well received. Can you shed some light on this for me? Read Post »

Peter And The Rock

Q. I was raised Catholic, and came to faith in Jesus Christ about 2 years ago. Most of my friends and family are Catholic. I frequently am in situations where Catholic beliefs are discussed. None of my Catholic family or friends are bible literate, but have had exposure to some scripture through the Mass etc. One passage frequently quoted to support the belief that the Catholic Church is the one and only true church, and that salvation can not be achieved outside of it, is Matthew 16:15-20. Discernment Or Judgment?

Q. Over the past couple of years or so, I’m sensing that I may have the gift of discernment, in that I seem to be able to see the root of issues while others focus on the symptoms. (I have a difficulty even writing this because is appears to be pompous.) Various people have commented that they see wisdom in my words, which has caused me to watch my “tongue”. Read Post »

Praying In The Spirit

Q. What exactly does it mean to “pray in the spirit” as mentioned in the following scripture excerpts?

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

Thanks again! I love that you are available for these type of questions. Read Post »

Why Didn’t God Prevent The Fall?

Q. Do you have an article that justifies God ‘allowing’ Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, rather than Him stepping in and stopping them, thus preventing the fall. Another person is trying to use the fact that as ~’God didn’t prevent it, then He must not exist, because according to the way He describes Himself in the Bible, He would have stopped them.’ So the person in reference concludes God doesn’t exist, because he says God doesn’t act the way He says He would. A Baptism Question

I have been born again for more than three years and have not been baptized. We don’t have a church that believes like I do, only the Dutch Reformed church. I live in South Africa. As I guess you’ll know the Dutch reformed church believes in replacement theology and practices infant baptism.

A Divorce Question

Q. I want to thank you again for all your wonderful work.

I have been seperated from my estranged wife now for almost 6 years, she had an affair, lied to me. We are not divorced. My question to you is should I get divorced? My heart tells me I should, but I can’t seem to get the courage to do it. She has never requested a divorce, but there is no hope of getting back together. I know God hates divorce and I have no desire to meet another woman for the time being. I became a believer just this past summer and it has been on my mind more often lately. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. God bless. Read Post »

God And Satan

Getting Baptized

Q. I have two questions on baptism. For those of us who can not find a true bible believing Church, how do we get baptised? My family and I would all love to be baptised, but don’t know any other Christians we can ask to do this….and we do not want to be baptized into a specific denomination…

My other question is this. Through the years I have attended many Churches and have seen alter calls yet they never offer to baptize new converts immediately afterwards….shouldn’t the two go hand in hand (understanding of course that baptisim doesn’t play a part in salvation)?

A.
I don’t know where you live, but it’s hard for me to believe that you can’t find someone to baptize you. Contrary to what you may have been taught, it doesn’t require an ordained pastor and you don’t have to do it during a church service, or even in a church. Any baptized believer can help you with this. Are you in a Bible Study or small group? Ask the leader to baptize your husband and then your husband can baptize you and your children. Or how about a believing family member?

When Jesus told His followers to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, (Matt. 28:19) He wasn’t just talking to the 11 men there with Him, nor only to the legions of clergymen who would come later. He was talking to all of us. If you need specific instructions on how to do it write to me and I’ll provide them.

Some churches don’t baptize people immediately after an altar call for convenience reasons. Others want new converts to have some discipleship first. And still others wrongly wait for the new convert to make a membership decision before scheduling a baptism.
