Q. Re: Numbers 13:32 . And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.”
The spies spread a bad report to the Israelites. When they saw the giants in the land, their hearts failed them for fear and they imagined that the pre-flood nephilim had returned. This wasn’t the case. The people were just giants, like the nephilim were.
A. If I understand correctly, you’re saying that there weren’t really any nephilim after the flood, but that some of the spies lied to scare the others. How do you reconcile this view with Genesis 6:4 which says;
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
This seems to indicate that there were nephilim on Earth after the flood and hints that the people the spies encountered weren’t “just giants.” Then there were the strange creatures God sent the descendants of Esau and Lot to destroy. As well as the ones the Philistines wiped out. Were these all just giants as well? I don’t think so.
