Q. I notice New York State has recently legalized same sex marriages. I would like to know your opinion on same sex marriage. I too feel that homosexuality is a forgivable sin but I don’t believe in same sex marriage. Any comments?
A. I am convinced that the Bible only condones marriage between a man and a woman. Genesis 2:24 says, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
It’s clear that God intended that a man would have a father and a mother, and that He would take a wife. The physical fulfillment of the two becoming one flesh is in their children, who come partly from the father and partly from the mother.
This is the only type of marital relationship mentioned in the Bible. Even in the days when there were multiple wives, they were all married to the man, never to each other. And no man ever took another man to be his wife, or even one of his wives.
The prohibitions against any sexual activity outside of this relationship, whether with a member of the same or the opposite sex, indicate that God’s intention was that the Human race would be perpetuated through the marriage relationship. Obviously same sex marriages can not meet this requirement.
