Q. There exists a group of Koreans here in the Philippines who are going house to house to introduce the doctrine of the Heavenly Mother. Their Bible reference is Genesis 1:26-27. Is theirs a correct interpretation?
A. Genesis 1:26-27 says,
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
All around the world there’s a similar move to either de-genderize God or give Him a wife or feminine counterpart. The Bible does not support these views. In Genesis 1:26-27 the Lord is simply saying He created both the man and the woman in His image. Not that either one of them necessarily looked like Him, but that they both shared characteristics of His. There’s no mention of a female counterpart for God in these verses or any others.
