Confess With Your Mouth And Believe In Your Heart

Published: September 25, 2020 (Originally published: September 7, 2012)
Q

In Romans 10:9,10, I have come upon many different types of interpretation by pastors and commentaries. And I’m always in a debate with other Christian members when comes to this verse. I’ve always interpreted “confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus” as simply asking God with our (mouth or mind) to save us because we agree that Christ is God and he died for our sin and he rose again from the dead. Is this correct?

To Share Or Not To Share

Published: September 25, 2020 (Originally published: September 23, 2012)
Q

The leader of a men’s group I attend told me it’s OK to tell the group that I’m struggling with sin, but not to share the particular sin I am struggling with. I was always told I should share my sins with a group of men so they can pray for me. They might even be suffering from the same sin and be encouraged to come forward because of my honesty. I think the leader of the group is wrong. What’s your opinion on this?

Brother And Sister Or Husband And Wife?

Published: September 25, 2020 (Originally published: September 27, 2012)
Q

I thought it strange that Abraham claimed Sarah was his sister twice and then Isaac did the same thing. Apparently, they both feared for their lives, (rather than laying down their lives for their wives). Abraham had experienced great military victories in the past, too, so it is hard to conceive he was fearful of anything or anyone. Was there a middle east custom whereby a husband would be killed to obtain his wife?

Why Was Jesus Standing?

Published: September 28, 2020 (Originally published: September 11, 2012)
Q

I have a question about Acts 7:56 when Stephen was being stoned and heaven opened up and he saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God. In another teaching I was listening to the teacher implied that it meant something that Jesus was standing and not sitting. I’ve looked this up and gotten a few different explanations. I’d like to know what you think about this.

The Gift Of The Holy Spirit

Published: September 29, 2020 (Originally published: September 15, 2013)
Q

I have a question about this verse: “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” My question is, did Jesus imply we have to ask for the Holy Spirit? I thought the Spirit was already sealed in us by God when we first believed?

Good And Evil

Published: October 21, 2013 (Originally published: October 21, 2013)
Q

In John 5:28-29 the Bible says “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”

This verse has me concerned as a believer in Jesus Christ. I was curious to know if this scripture pertains to unbelievers when it says “and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” Those that have done good and receive eternal life are believers, correct?

Understanding Rev. 14:9-11

Published: October 27, 2013 (Originally published: October 26, 2013)
Q

In Rev. 14:9-11 what exactly does the third angel mean when saying, “He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb”? It almost sounds as if he is describing someone viewing a public execution. Am I interpreting this correctly?

Q

Thank you for your wonderful site. It has helped so often with home bible study groups over the years. We have a sincere and good lady who keeps believing there was a race before Adam. We cannot get her away from this. What are the key arguments to make it clear to her that she is in error here.
