In Spirit And In Truth

Published: February 3, 2023 (Originally published: February 2, 2007)
Q

My question is: We know that God the Father is a spirit and we must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). When we are told in Scripture that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, how can that be since a spirit has no form, or does it?

Also can you explain worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth. I want to know if we are thinking the same.

Lazarus Or Lazarus?

Published: February 3, 2023 (Originally published: February 4, 2007)
Q

My question has to do with Luke 16:19-31, the story (not parable) that Jesus gave to the Pharisees and the crowd about Lazarus and the rich man. I know it’s not a parable, but I also know that it has a much deeper meaning than just a story. Look at the characters in the story and what they represent… in the story the rich man asks father Abraham to send Lazarus to his brethren’s house so he (Lazarus) can testify to them (Luke 16:27-28). But then Abraham says something very key (at least to me) he tells him…”they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them” (verse 29). You have stated before that Moses and the prophets refer to the OT. Then in the next two following verses it gets really good, the rich man says “nay father Abraham but if one went unto them from the dead they will repent” (verse 30). I love Abraham’s response in verse 31…” If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

If Moses and the prophets are a type or name for the OT which points to Christ, who then is Lazarus (one rose from the dead) verse 31 picture here? I believe the Holy Ghost reveals much more in this story. What are your thoughts?

Angels, Cherubim, And Seraphim

Published: February 6, 2023 (Originally published: February 20, 2007)
Q

I am curious about angels, cherubim, and seraphim. Are cherubim and seraphim a type of angel or are they a different creation? If they are the same type of entity, where does the Bible say that they are? Or do we find this information in extra-biblical writings (such as the Book of Enoch or Josephus). Angels seem to be described very different from cherubim, and I have searched in a concordance and cannot find a reference to seraphim. When angels are seen by humans, they usually have a human form, but the cherubs described in the Old Testament do not seem very humanlike. Cherubim are described with wings, but angels don’t seem to have wings.

When Stephen was being charged with blasphemy and was speaking to the council, Acts 6:15 says that they looked at him and “….saw his face as it had been the face of an angel”. I assume that this means glowing with the love of Christ. Ezekiel contains some very interesting descriptions of cherubim which would be very odd if Stephen’s face resembled them!

A Question About 2 Peter 3

Published: February 6, 2023 (Originally published: February 1, 2012)
Q

I’m enjoying reading your site, especially your comments on what I consider tough passages. My question is about “the day of the Lord/day of God” mentioned in 2 Peter 3:10&12. I always associated the destruction by fire of the heavens and earth in these verses with the new heaven and earth in Revelation 21:1. But the reference to these events coming as a thief in the night would seem to be about the Second Coming. I know that there will be major geographical renovations when He comes, but if that is the time-frame for the fervent heat Peter mentions, that would mean that the heavens and earth will be recreated twice, both before and after the millennium. What are your thoughts on this?

Was My Baptism Voided?

Published: February 7, 2023 (Originally published: February 2, 2012)
Q

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was 16 years old and got baptized in water. However about 7 years ago I found myself in a different city and couldn’t find a Christian church close enough to where I lived. One day I met some really nice people from a Mormon church and was so amazed at how their main focus was the family that I decided to attend their church. Eventually I ended up getting baptized since they told me that my first baptism was not a proper one and I was still not saved. I since have found a Christian church and found my way back to God. Do I need to get baptized again? What if the baptism in the Mormon church robbed me of my salvation and I need to get baptized again because the first one was voided?

Sickness And Curses

Published: February 7, 2023 (Originally published: February 3, 2012)
Q

I have two questions that have been troubling me for quite some time. The first concerns healing. Throughout the New Testament it appears that more often than not when Jesus heals or directs the Apostles or the 70 to heal it is accompanied by casting out devils. My question is this. I would like to know if you believe any, most or all sickness, disease and infirmities are the result of demonic activity and if you believe casting out devils should be used along with prayer for the sick. We seem to be such failures in praying for the sick.

The second question is this. I believe Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the Law. Our relationship with Him is based on faith and not works. I would like to know if you believe it is possible for Christians to be cursed or live under a curse – generational, etc. Do you believe curses can be a reality that must be dealt with or do you believe it is a tactic of the enemy whose goal is to cause us to doubt our freedom from the curse?

When Does The Wedding Supper Happen?

Published: February 7, 2023 (Originally published: February 5, 2012)
Q

I’ve run into a problem with the timing of the Wedding supper and Matt 26:29. Rev 19:9 is kind of vague, coming as it does with the return of Christ with His bride verses in chapter 19. But the bigger issue is what is meant by “…when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom,” in reference to the 4th cup of wine, the wedding feast cup.

Public Prayer

Published: February 8, 2023 (Originally published: February 7, 2012)
Q

I have come across many Christians who attempt to make a case against public and/or corporate prayer based on Matt. 6:6 which says, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

What If I Divorce Her?

Published: February 8, 2023 (Originally published: February 8, 2012)
Q

I have been married for 9 years. Last year I discovered my wife lost her virginity to a non-believer 3 weeks before our wedding. God had revealed it to me in a dream prior to the wedding, but she had denied ever sleeping with any one. The question is if I choose to divorce her will I commit a sin? What about the forgiveness of 70 times 7?
