OSAS, Freedom Or Enslavement?
Published: September 13, 2023 (Originally published: October 21, 2008)The church has become so liberal that it is becoming self-righteous by changing God into what they are as opposed to us changing into what God wants us to be. And, in my opinion, is responsible for misleading the sheep to slaughter. Faith is an act of belief. I think Jesus made it plain when He said, “If you love Me, keep my commandments.” Believing in Christ does not make it legal to sin and that is the misleading part. I could go on, but I won’t. I just believe that a person who is safe in Christ is so because they are walking with Him. I whole heartedly believe a person cannot lose (their salvation) but can forfeit their hope of eternal life by choosing to go back to their old ways. If one cannot, then they were more free before coming to know Christ since they are in a bondage where they cannot choose. Free indeed means freedom to come, and to go, if one desires.
Must God Choose Us, Or Can We Choose Him?
Published: January 9, 2016 (Originally published: January 10, 2016)In the Bible Study group I lead there’s an older gentleman who frequently makes a statement that I don’t agree with. I want to kindly correct him on this but don’t know how to go about it. He says he believes in Grace and OSAS. However, he says that no matter how much we pray to God, until God decides to reveal Himself to us, we cannot know Him. He goes on further to say that God has to choose us and that we cannot choose Him. It has upset some in the group as they are facing daily struggles and they are starting to believe that their struggles are because God hasn’t “chosen” them. Please help me address this situation. If I’m wrong and he is right, that’s fine, but I can’t find Biblical support for his position.
OSAS and 1 John 2:3-6
Published: September 28, 2015 (Originally published: September 29, 2015)These verses concern me. I can’t keep his commands all the time. Try as I might I just can’t. But it says “this is how we know we are in Him” in regards to keeping his commands. I love The Lord Jesus, but if I can’t keep his commands I’m a liar? I don’t want to be that at all. Do these verses mean, that if I don’t keep his commands that I’m really not saved or never was. I want to live a life for Christ but I’m not perfect and I don’t keep His commands 100% of the time. This verse makes me feel like I have to do works or I’m not saved if I don’t live as Christ lived. I’d really appreciate your help on these verses. It’s really getting to me.
Christians In Hell?
Published: August 5, 2016 (Originally published: August 17, 2007)After reading your website, I see that you believe in OSAS. However, I recently read a book and also watched a show on (Christian TV) that talked about near death experiences. In both the book and TV show, they reported seeing people in hell who were Christians. The reasons given were because these Christians had refused to forgive relatives in their lives who had offended them. They were told that if they could not forgive others then their Father in Heaven could not forgive them.
Is this possibly true? Please share any insight. This has really confused me.
A Forgiveness Question
Published: February 22, 2014 (Originally published: February 21, 2014)I read your articles online constantly. I’ve seen a number on forgiveness, and thought I had a good grasp of what the Bible teaches about it. I’m confused with what I’m hearing lately on television. It’s more than one source saying the same thing: “If you don’t forgive, then God won’t forgive you.” I ignored it at first, thinking it was a tie-in to a Prosperity Gospel marketing ploy, but now it has me wondering if I’ve missed something in my studies. Is there any scriptural basis to this statement? I can’t believe there is as I believe in OSAS, so my sins (including not forgiving someone) are forgiven, as I pray constantly that God would give me the ability to forgive the one who wronged me. Please let me know if I’ve missed something.
What Does If Mean?
Published: July 15, 2014 (Originally published: January 1, 2012)Once again I am so thankful for your site, everyday I learn and get a deeper understanding of the Word. My question is on Colossians 1: 21-23. I believe in OSAS but Paul’s use of “if” in verse 23 has me confused as it seems like a salvation issue. Can you help?
Pre Or Post Doesn’t Bother Me
Published: May 9, 2012 (Originally published: May 8, 2012)I’ve been watching a pastor on TV who is obviously post-trib and goes so far to claim we have been in the Tribulation for several years. I have no quarrel with his teaching since I feel he is on target with his basic tenets of OSAS and it doesn’t bother me about “pre” or “post”. However, I note in John 6:37-40 that Christ says He will raise us up on the last day. Doesn’t that sound like “post-trib” to you?
OSAS And 1 Timothy 4
Published: June 19, 2015 (Originally published: June 26, 2010)In 1 Timothy 4:1, it says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith. Some teachers that I listen to believe this is proof that true believers can walk away from their faith and lose their salvation. Then they mention the perseverance of the saints. I believe that if you are a true believer that you will persevere even though you will not be perfect and will still sin.
Dos And Don’ts For The Kingdom
Published: August 24, 2022 (Originally published: August 23, 2007)Thank you for the advice on your site it has been a blessing to me and have helped me through a lot of difficult patches in my life.
I read Galatians 5:19 – 24 that states that if you do any of these things you will not see the Kingdom of God. That is frightening as I struggle to not to do these things. Even if it is only in the mind as Jesus has stated.
If we are saved by Grace thru Faith, why would the Holy Spirit through Paul make the statement In Galatians? It seems to contradict as I know of no honest person that does not struggle in one of these areas. I for one loose my temper from time to time. Help please. Please help.
Why Doesn’t God Tell Everyone To Stop?
Published: February 1, 2023 (Originally published: January 4, 2011)There’s something I have been puzzling about. Let’s say there are two good Christian friends. They both dabble in witchcraft and read their horoscopes every day. Then God tells one of them to stop doing that because he doesn’t like it. So the first person changes his lifestyle, but the second one never hears from God. They remain friends, despite the change. Now why does this happen? Why does God call one person and ignore many others who are doing the same thing? If the activity is displeasing wouldn’t he tell ALL of them to stop?
From a different angle – if you’re Christian and you believe Jesus died to save you, and OSAS is true, why does God call you out of doing certain things? Because if your behavior had no bearing on being saved, then you could go around doing witchcraft or whatever and it would be okay, wouldn’t it? I’m really confused. Please help.
