Is This Fasting Or Not?

Published: December 1, 2016 (Originally published: December 31, 2006)
Q

Hello again, still watching your web. Learning answers to a lot of topics I have wondered about for a long time. Every one is talking Fasting. I go to a church that does fasting different than I’ve ever heard. I believe that you give up food in some way or totally for as long as you feel God would exspect of you as an individual. I have heard that a person can fast things like giving up T.V or some kind of pleasure. I do not believe in this as to me it seems like one is giving up a sin that should not be in your life any way. What does the Word say? I really would like your thought on this. Maybe I am wrong. God Bless you and I’ll look for an answer.

Daniel 9 And Palm Sunday

Published: December 1, 2016 (Originally published: December 31, 2006)
Q

In your article on Daniel’s 70 weeks, the bit that bothers me a little is the timing of Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. In your article on the second page, you state that the decree by Artaxerxes was made in March 445 BC, then “exactly 483 years after that the Lord Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey …” Putting these two figures together would make the year of our Lord’s death as 38 AD.

If Jesus was born around 2 BC, that would make him 40 years old. How does that figure with the usual age of 33 years at His death?

Thank you very much for your articles which I find relevant and thrilling. I live in Zambia and do quite a lot of Bible teaching myself in the local church. But if someone asked me about the missing 7 years and I didn’t have an answer, it would undermine the truth of the rest of the teaching, hence my question above.

Is A Marriage License Necessary?

Q

I disagree with your implications that it’s OK to live together as long as God knows your heart. What kind of picture are you painting for other people? That anything goes? Forgive me if I have interrupted this wrong, but I think you need to take another look at what you are teaching people.

Is Grace Sufficient Or Is Work Necessary?

Published: November 22, 2016 (Originally published: November 10, 2010)
Q

I know that Jesus Christ is my savior and have repented of all my past sins. I have been saved by grace because Jesus has already paid the price for me. Thank you, Lord! So now it’s OK for me to continue on in sin that I did before I got saved? I can now do all the drugs I was doing, lie, have me a new lover on the side whenever I feel like it and everything will be OK in God’s eyes? I think you’re wrong if that’s what you’re implying. You are leading people astray by telling people stuff like this. You have to turn from your sins, and become a new creature in Christ.

The Covenant Ceremony

Published: November 22, 2016 (Originally published: November 11, 2010)
Q

From Adam to Abraham men did not have to be circumcised to be saved and from the cross to now men have not had to be circumcised to be saved. So why is circumcision such a big thing in God’s eyes from Abraham to the cross? It seems a strange thing to prove your faith by cutting off your foreskin. Any thoughts on this?

Judge Not

Published: November 22, 2016 (Originally published: November 11, 2010)
Q

When I talk to people about sin, I tell them that God loves the sinner but hates the sin. Their response is to say who am I to judge? Am I judging by pointing out certain sins in the Bible? If I am, is that wrong? What did Jesus mean when He said “Judge not, lest ye be judged”?
