Easter Or Ishtar?

Published: April 3, 2015 (Originally published: April 4, 2015)
Q

How does one explain to loved ones that the real Resurrection Sunday falls on the Sunday after Passover, and not on some other day? I tried to tell them that they are celebrating a Babylonian goddess (Ishtar), based on the lunar cycle, but they maintain, that it doesn’t matter what day they observe, as long as they observe it. Why is the church behaving like a bunch of lemmings?

Answering An Unbeliever’s Questions

Published: April 3, 2015 (Originally published: April 4, 2015)
Q

My husband was watching a debate on youtube about God’s existence and he said that in this video it was mentioned that in the old testament (specifically in the book of Deuteronomy) there used to be human sacrifice offered to God but then it was switched to animals. I’ve never heard such thing and I find it hard to believe.

Also, what do you tell people when they start questioning God’s existence, love, compassion and kindness when they ask why would God say to stone to death people for being homosexual, not virgin, etc? I’ve never known how to respond to those questions.

This isn’t the first thing I have read from your Q&A forum, but this one is the most disturbing. Sin is missing the mark, and if our body is the temple of the HS, isn’t smoking, overeating and basic abuse of our own bodies a Sin? Do you smoke? Why or why not? Please elaborate.

Para-Church Ministry

Q

In a recent answer about the para-church movement you said, “More and more people are turning to places like the internet to meet their spiritual needs. This has the added benefit of leading believers back into the pattern of self study, something the Lord always intended for us. (Acts 17:11)” What is the para-church movement?

Severe Persecution In The Future?

Published: March 31, 2015 (Originally published: March 29, 2010)
Q

Re: Your commentary on Psalm 7. Could you please explain in more detail exactly what you are referring to in the US? Are there some laws coming down that we are not aware of? Are you speaking of the tribulation (Daniel’s 70th week) or are you talking here and now before the Rapture? I certainly agree that there is no end to ALL kinds of problems on the horizon but I’m confused about the severe persecution comments, at least in the “near future” as you have indicated for the U.S. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Is Dating My Late Wife’s Sister OK?

Published: March 31, 2015 (Originally published: April 3, 2015)
Q

I need your advice on a dating issue. I have been thinking about starting to date my late wife’s sister. She has been divorced about five years now after her ex left her for another woman. Is it morally wrong for us to start this dating life? We are both saved. My biggest issue is this. Am I disrespecting my late wife for doing it? And how will it affect our reunion in heaven when we are reunited?

More Nephilim To Come?

Published: March 31, 2015 (Originally published: April 3, 2015)
Q

Concerning these days as being like the days of Noah, and as we speculate that once again, the Nephilim, or fallen angels, may be mating with some humans, the following scripture has been brought to my attention.

2 Peter 2:4 states “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved until judgment”.

If this refers to those same fallen angels, how can they be doing it now, today, if they are chained in hell?

Celebrating Resurrection Morning

Published: March 31, 2015 (Originally published: March 5, 2007)
Q

I want to observe Resurrection Day on the correct day. I’m familiar with the Gregorian Calendar and how it differs from the Hebrew Calendar. Resurrection Day is supposed to be the first Sunday following Passover on the day of “Feast of First Fruits”. However, my Jewish Calendar does not give this day. It says that Pesach starts on April 3rd. I would assume that Ressurection Day would then follow on the first day of the week after the sabbath which is Sunday the 8th (which just happens to land on Easter Sunday). However, this year that day falls on Pesach VI or “5th day of the Omer”. I assume that the Feast of First Fruits can float around on these days? I’ve heard that there is a Desporia calendar and an Israel calendar. Which one should I use? What is the Hebrew term for Feast of First Fruits and can I find it on the Hebrew calendar?

Jesus And The Easter Bunny

Do you think it’s OK for a Christian to teach their children about Jesus through the Easter bunny? If the motive of the person’s heart is sincere and one of “I’m teaching them about Jesus” does that make it OK? Does our Lord approve of such things?

Interesting Facts About Easter

I read that Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar. Is this correct?

Help! Our Churches Are Failing Us!

Published: March 30, 2015 (Originally published: May 19, 2011)
Q

What does a person do that lives in a small town that doesn’t have a church that teaches the truth? I have a group of 5 friends that all go to different churches and we all are all experiencing the same thing. The Bible is either watered down, false doctrine is preached, or busy things are done that completely leave out the Word. The Bible says that we are not to forsake the assembling together. We meet and study God’s Word in our homes and still go to church but leave empty, mad, and confused. We long to hear God’s Word but it is not to be found. Have you any suggestions to our situation?

Are These People Saved Or Not?

Published: March 30, 2015 (Originally published: March 31, 2015)
Q

Whilst listening to a pastor preaching the gospel, something really stood out regarding the committing of oneself to Christ. The pastor pointed out that there are many people who believe they are saved, purely because they said a ‘sinners prayer’ accepting that Jesus died for their sins. The aspect which he believed was missing was a conviction of sin and repentance. He spoke of being ‘salt’ and ‘light’ and not being conformed to this world. He spoke of God’s Righteousness and Holiness and commented that most salvation messages had eliminated these elements of ‘repent and turn from your sins’. Are people who just say the sinner’s prayer saved or not?

Wisdom Is Justified Of All Her Children

Q

I’m somewhat uncertain what Jesus meant when in Luke 7:35 He told the multitude, “But wisdom is justified of all her children”. Was He simply reproving and explaining to this vast crowd of curious and inquiring people, or did He intend a deeper understanding for some as he included the word “all”?

I am having trouble with Jesus’ statement in John 14: 28. “You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.” Did He say this because He was still on earth?

When Do We Stop Praying?

Q

I have a question regarding praying for our country. Referring to Jeremiah 7:16, isn’t there a point where God’s patience runs out and His mind is made up regarding the fate of a peoples. I can’t help but think that the United States has reached that point where we have stuck our finger in His eye one time too many and judgement is sure to come. How can we know when we have reached this point?

Confused About Luke 21

Q

I am confused by Luke 21 and hope you can clarify it for me. Does this chapter concern the Tribulation period? If so, and if we believe the Rapture won’t happen until the ‘times of the Gentiles be fulfilled’ then Luke 21:24 appears to mean the Rapture won’t be experienced until sometime during the Tribulation, and yet that seams to be contradicted in Luke 21:36.

A Question On Joel 2

Published: March 27, 2015 (Originally published: March 28, 2015)
Q

My question has to do with the book of Joel and chapter two in particular. The more that I study the bible the more I see a vast distinction between Israel and the Church. Chapter two of Joel clearly is about Israel and it appears to me that it is about Israel after the rapture. I have for my entire life been taught and believed that Joel 2:28 is primarily about the church with the Holy Spirit being poured out “on all people.” But verse 28 begins with “and afterward” with the context about the “Day of the Lord.” Verse 29 says “I will pour out my Spirit in those days.” To me these scriptures talks about God pouring out His Spirit on all people during the tribulation days.
