Is My Friend Mistaken?

Published: August 23, 2016 (Originally published: August 15, 2012)
Q

A friend of mine believes that because of the sovereignty of God he does not have to witness or reach out to the lost. He seems to have taken what I consider to be an ultra-Calvinistic position. I am looking for Scriptures that show that even though God is sovereign He intended us to have dominion and to work for His glory and occupy til He comes.

Should I Find Another Place Of Worship?

Published: June 23, 2013 (Originally published: June 22, 2013)
Q

I joined a new church with great enthusiasm and joy. Beautiful people and a great pastor. However, I am watching the ministry slide into a Calvinistic & Reformed view, which I can not grasp – I am confused and in constant prayer asking God to to guide me. My question is this – do I stay in this church when I just do not believe their views?

The Potter And The Clay

Published: September 16, 2020 (Originally published: September 29, 2011)
Q

I have a question concerning the topic of first mention. I have heard that with the potter and the clay (Romans 9) that it actually refers to service that GOD has you do for him and not to salvation like the Calvinists believe. Could you please shed some light on this and possibly look at the potter and the clay in light of the topic of first mention.

Predestination And John 3:16

Published: September 21, 2023 (Originally published: September 19, 2012)
Q

When you say John 3:16 proves that the Calvinists aren’t correct, how do we know it doesn’t prove that they are? Their whole idea is that God makes people believe, right? And John 3:16 says whosoever believes has everlasting life. Do you see what I mean?

Why Doesn’t He Save Everyone?

Published: July 17, 2012 (Originally published: July 16, 2012)
Q

If God is not willing that any should perish, how come all are not chosen before the foundation of the world? In order for someone to come into the family of God, He needs to draw them to Him, but He does not draw/save everyone. I am not questioning God. Just trying to better understand His word!!

Why Is It Either Calvinism Or Arminianism?

Published: August 13, 2015 (Originally published: August 14, 2015)
Q

Per my subject line I’ve been reading many scriptures and various commentaries that uphold both Calvinism and Arminianism.  My understanding of the gospel is that Jesus was the atoning sacrifice for mankind, the propitiation of all our sins, that any who come to him and believe in him shall be saved, etc. I am wondering how my friends can believe all does not mean all, and claim that John 3:16 says Jesus didn’t die for the world, but solely for the elect called unto him by God.  Any insight into this dilemma?

More on Amillennialism

Published: December 10, 2012 (Originally published: December 9, 2012)
Q

I Hope you can shed a little light on the Amillennialism view for me. I have been running into a growing number of Sovereign Grace Calvinist’s who are departing from the traditional pre-trib/pre-millennial view. They are also claiming grounds for not having fellowship with those who believe in a literal rebuilding of the Temple and re-instituted animal sacrifices. This doesn’t sound right to me. Can you elaborate where they get this teaching from?

Limiting Grace?

Published: May 27, 2015 (Originally published: May 14, 2012)
Q

Re: Romans 5:15. It says that the Grace of Jesus Christ has abounded to many. I’m given to understand that people of the Calvinist view point to this verse to support their contention that God doesn’t extend His offer of Grace to everyone, only to the ones He has predestined to be saved…the “many”. There are lots of verses that say this is error, not the least of which is John 3:16. Please help me understand what Rom 5:15 is actually saying.

The Pygmies In Africa

Published: December 9, 2006 (Originally published: December 9, 2006)
Q

Re: your article “What About The Pygmies in Africa?” Have you read Romans 9-11? Have you studied the characteristics of God? How is God just is sending someone, a tribal person let’s say who has never heard, to heaven? Is that really balancing out his attributes? I don’t think so. What does Romans 5:8 teach us? And you also say that if people just catch a glimpse of a creator they are saved? Man that is wrong thinking! You are putting God’s love above all other attributes. By grace through faith…in what? Jesus Christ.
