What’s Going On In Damascus?

Commentary by Jack Kelley

The city of Damascus is mentioned 60 times in the Bible from Genesis 14:15 to Acts 22:10. Abraham’s chief servant, Eliazer, was from Damascus and Paul spent his first days as a Christian there. According to Flavius Josephus, Damascus was founded by Uz,

Damascus’ Date With Destruction

Q

Is there a specific Agricultural season mentioned as to the timing of the Destruction of Damascus? “It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain.” Is that the Bible’s way of making a General statement about Harvesting or can we take that literally to be when the wheat is actually harvested in Israel?

The Destruction Of Damascus

Published: July 24, 2006 (Originally published: July 24, 2006)
Q

Hal Lindsey wrote an article where he confirms your earlier prediction about the destruction of Damascus happening prior to the Rapture.

My question is, if Damascus is destroyed by Israel, how can the Ezekiel 38 come to pass, as Israel is described as a city without walls, etc? Does this have to do with the anti-Christ’s peace accord? Somehow Israel must think that nobody will bother them. At the present time, Russia, Iran, and Syria have made a pact. How could Israel not see Ezekiel 38 coming a mile away?

Isaiah 17 And Revelation

Published: May 25, 2008 (Originally published: May 25, 2008)
Q

Israeli PM Olmert announced “talks with Syria” and the Golan Heights are on the table to trade for peace, I was trying to make the connection to the book of Revelation. I’ve done an extensive study on Revelation to be used for presentation to older youth.

I believe the Oracle of Damascus us almost upon us, but I’m trying to find the “wording” that links it to Revelation as I present it. Where do you see the connection (if you do)? I would appreciate any information you could give me on it.

Will Russia Destroy Syria?

Q

In your opinion, could the destruction of Damascus come from Russia or Iran, and not Israel? After reading about Russia warning Syria to prepare for war, it does begin to seem highly likely doesn’t it?

Peace Not Retaliation

I recently discovered your site and enjoy it greatly. I believe the Lord is using it to help prepare people for what is to come and understand who He is better.

My question is this: in light of the support that Syria will certainly have from her allies there would surely be a very strong reaction to the total destruction of Damascus by Israel as foretold by Isaiah. What would this reaction (in the context of Biblical prophecy) likely be? It seems to me that there are still some things in the way of geo-political and economic events that still must occur before the war foretold by Ezekiel can come to pass. These things could be accelerated by a war with Syria but it would not seem to be that Ezekiel’s war would be an immediate response.

Which Comes First, Isaiah 17 Or Ezekiel 38?

Published: December 13, 2007 (Originally published: December 13, 2007)
Q

I just read your Dec. 9 commentary update of the Annapolis Conference, and I am trying to put things in proper order, like a prophecy jigsaw puzzle if you will. Should not Isaiah 17 on the prophecy about Damascus be fulfilled before the war mentioned in Ezekiel38?

When will Israel be living in peace, as mentioned in Ezekiel 38, after the prophecy about Damascus or before? Or, will the destruction of Damascus and the Ezekiel war occur one after the other? Any thought of how the scenario will come to play?

Isaiah 17 and Psalm 83

Published: March 11, 2010 (Originally published: March 10, 2010)
Q

In Isaiah 17, after Damascus becomes a ruinous heap, vs. 4 and on speaks of the glory of Jacob waning and the land becoming lean, etc. Is this past or do you think Israel will once again have agricultural lack? And in Psalm 83–scholars say it is yet future. Indeed it sure could be. Do you think any of the ancient past wars, 1948, 1974, or 1967 would have fit that picture as well? Or is it just future?
