Another Look At Ezekiel 38

Published: July 17, 2007 (Originally published: July 17, 2007)
Q

I do a Bible study on Sunday afternoons and I’m teaching Isaiah right now. I came across something interesting and I would really like your input. I am involved on a well known prophecy chat board and your commentaries are posted often, so I would like to get your input directly from you, if that’s ok?

I will preface you by stating that I am Pre-Trib without a doubt, but I see Ezekiel 38 and 39 as the Day of the LORD due to some of the language and cross referencing it with the other prophets on the same event (Ezekiel 38:17 says that Gog is spoken of by the other prophets). This seems to cause a rift on the board because I am making my way as a teacher as well, and I do not just blindly fall in line with any view unless it is very clear.

in reading the text in Isaiah 23 about the destruction of Tyre and Sidon I went to Ezekiel 26 and 27 for the more specific prophecy. There are three cities in Ezekiel 27 named Togarmah, Meshech and Tubal that traded with Tyre and Sidon by sea. As I read the notes in my Bible and some commentary, they indicate that, “Tubal and Meshech are in Eastern Asia Monor, or modern day Turkey along with Togarmah.

So then I go to commentary about Meshech and Tubal in Ezekiel chapter 38 and guess what? Meshech and Tubal have now mysteriously migrated some 1000 miles north and INLAND and have become Russia now, and no longer the seafaring/trading cities of Asia Minor.

Think about how prophecy has been interpreted over the last 100 years, and look at how many things were indeed off the mark. Can anyone honestly answer and admit that the Russia view may end up being an “off the mark” interpretation if the LORD tarries and we really see it coming together differently? The key is Turkey in my opinion. I am watching them, not Russia

I guess I’m asking, what am I supposed to do when I study and prepare to teach and try to be faithful? Read the Bible and then disregard it and just cut and paste commentary of popular views and teach it as my own? Or trust the Holy Spirit, read the Word, cross reference a couple of commentaries, and then teach what He is leading me to teach?

Does Damascus Have To Be Destroyed?

Published: October 12, 2012 (Originally published: October 11, 2012)
Q

In regards to Isaiah 17 and the destruction of Damascus, does all of Damascus have to be destroyed? With all the fighting, destruction, and death in Syria right now could that be what was meant by the “destruction of Damascus”? I am wondering if it can be greatly damaged due to this current war or if it as to be totally destroyed to fit the Isaiah 17 prophecy.

Does Gomer Refer To Germany?

Published: June 15, 2010 (Originally published: June 14, 2010)
Q

You have the best site on the internet and I read all your articles on prophecy, Your knowledge of the word is very interesting. Recently our church invited a Rabbi who is born again to speak, and His choice of scripture was Ezekiel 38 and 39 . What I found odd was he said that Gomer refers to modern day Germany. I’ve read in your articles and many others where Gomer is referred to modern day Turkey. Now I’m confused. Which is most likely?

Ezekiel 38 And The 6 Day War

Published: September 17, 2014 (Originally published: September 17, 2014)
Q

Why, in your opinion, did the 6 day war and the 1973 conflict not meet the substance of the Ezk 38-39 war? Obviously I expect that Turkey who did not participate is part of the answer, but Russia was very involved in both. Because as I sit, those two wars were pretty dead on. Where am I wrong?

Drying Up The Euphrates

Published: July 26, 2009 (Originally published: July 25, 2009)
Q

On Monday, July 13th, the New York Times published an article that says the Euphrates River is drying up because of an extended drought and also due to Syria and Turkeys water policies. I would like your thoughts as to whether this might be a “set up” for the reference in Revelation 16 of the angel pouring out of the vial and drying up the river for the kings of the east to cross for their attack on Jerusalem (which will lead to the final battle, Armageddon)

” And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.” Rev. 16:12 (KJV)

A Likely Scenario

Published: September 12, 2006 (Originally published: September 12, 2006)
Q

Ive been studying your entire site on everything you’ve written concerning Ezek 38 and 39, also Isaiah 17.

The last article concerning the Ezek 38 invasion you said a few things had to be in place before it could come about, like the Northern African nations and Turkey’s stand, also that Israel had to be dwelling safely (or carelessly, depending on the translation).

My question is, with regards to the current happenings with Israel, Syria, Lebanon, what would you say were the chances that we might see Isaiah 17 fulfilled first and very soon.. which in turn might put the last conditions in place to kick off Ezek 38?

After a possible nuclear situation between Israel and Damascus, might the UN and/or EU step in to make a peace-like situation? Not to mention if Israel takes Damascus out, those other Moslem nations Ezek named as well as Turkey would be more favorable to lining up against Israel? And if we the Church were Raptured around the time of this Isaiah 17 deal, that would effectively neutralize he US and pave the road for Russia and Iran to ‘think the evil thought’ as God said. Your thoughts?

Satan’s Flood

Q

I just finished reading the article on Rev. 11:15-12:17, and something occurred to me at the end of it, reading your comment on the surge of water Satan uses to try to destroy the Jews. I was just thinking, I know in Turkey, they’ve built the Anatolia dam with which they’re holding back all of the water of the Euphrates now (thereby releasing the “four angels”?) Certainly when the antichrist/Mahdi comes, he’ll have control over this dam. Could the unleashing of this dam release the water the antichrist uses to cause this flood? What do you think?

Wars And Rumors Of War
