Q. We were studying Luke 13 in Sunday School last week. In your opinion, what’s the meaning of the parable in verses 6-9?
Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
” ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ”

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley
Jesus was traveling through Jericho on His way to Jerusalem. It was early in the day on Palm Sunday. A rumor had sprung up among the crowds following Him that when He got there He was going to establish His Kingdom and defeat all their enemies. He told them this parable as a way of clarifying how things would happen.

Q. I have noticed that many scholars are divided over Luke 16:19-31 as to whether or not to classify this as a parable. If it is a parable, then it is not to be taken literally. If it is, then it sheds some light into the manner of the afterlife for those waiting for their resurrection. I was wondering what your thoughts on Luke 16:19-31 were as to whether or not it is a parable. Please also give reasons for your answer.

Q. In Matt 13, Christ gives the parable of the tares and wheat. He then gives the meaning of the parable. When does this occur? I’ve always seen this as the Second Coming, but the Lord’s explanation says the angels gather the wicked and they will cast them into the furnace. If this is the Second Coming, then how does this work with the Sheep and Goats Judgment? How can you gather the wicked (which is what I picture Matt 24:36-41 referencing) and toss them in the furnace, and yet have a sheep and goats judgment? Won’t all the wicked already be in the furnace?

Q. I have seen this pattern over and over: A gifted speaker and leader starts a church that is a great little church with a tight group of believers who enjoy warm fellowship with each other and are excited about following God,…. then over time, as the attendance grows, the church begins to polish up it’s program. Soon the once down-to-earth and accessible pastor starts to upgrade to more formal attire as the attendance swells, the worship team (gag) gets fancier, and then the building fund starts. Read Post »

Q. Hi there, love the website by the way! I have a question on this parable that I hope you can help me with, it has always confused me.
I understand that we are saved by Grace through faith, but the servant who recieved the one talent was sent to a place of ‘weeping and knashing of teeth’ because he as I understand it, did nothing with the gift s and talents god has given him, I am a born again spirit filled believer, but if at the end of my life I haven’t actually put the gifts god has given me to good use for his kingdom, is this saying that God wont accept us in heaven? And so why I am confused is, because it also says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. As you can see I am very confused as to what this scripture is actually talking about, Please help!! Read Post »

Read Post »

O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old- what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

Romanos 7:1 a 8:21
