Reconciling Matthew 24 and Daniel 12

Last Week’s Feature Article by Jack Kelley

A while back I posted a study showing why the phrase “No one Knows The Day or Hour” was meant for the 2nd Coming, not the Rapture. Even though it’s clear that the Great Tribulation is 1260 days long, and the 2nd Coming follows it, the Lord said people on Earth at the time will not know the day or hour of His coming. To emphasize this, He repeated it 4 times within the span of 28 verses (Matt. 24:36-37, 42-44, 50-51, 25:13)

A reader responded with the fascinating suggestion that this might help solve the mystery of the 1290 days and 1335 days of Daniel 12:11-12. Here’s what she wrote.

More Millennium Questions

Q. I’ve heard prophecy teachers forever talk about the time gap between pre-filled and fulfilled prophetic events, and this looks like another example of it.  I am confused, however, about your timing for the fulfillment of the New Jerusalem being at the beginning of the Millennium instead of the end especially since the Old Testament scriptures say the Lord will rule from Jerusalem.

No One Knows The Day Or Hour, Follow Up

Q. Please let me know what you think of the quote below.  Truly there is much on the net of the last days….

“Many of us have read the famous quote of our Messiah in the four gospels when he declared that his second coming would come at a time “that no man knows.” But how many of us knew that he was actually making a reference to the Feast of Trumpets? The Feast of Trumpets is known by Jews as “The Day That No Man Knows.” And why is it called this? Because it is the feast that can only be determined by the sighting of the new moon, and so “no man” can calculate the exact day or hour of when this feast day will begin.”

Describing The 2nd Coming

Q. Could you please explain Matt. 24:28?  I was once taught that the carcasses were the spiritually dead (non-born again believers) that the vultures come after. However, knowing now that Mt. 24 has nothing to do with the Church and everything to do with the Jews, I was wondering if perhaps it is referring to Jehovah coming to the aid of Israel during the tribulation.

Has The 2nd Coming Already Happened?

Q. Thank you for answering the many questions that you receive.  Your insight and knowledge helps many in their understanding of the Bible and living the Christian life with a world view.  One of the scripture texts which the Preterists use in arguing for the second coming in some form having taken place before the destruction of the Jerusalem in 70 AD is found in Matthew 16:28, Mark 9:1 and Luke 9:27.

The Readiness Of Babylon, More Follow Up

Q. I recently read an answer of yours concerning the readiness of Babylon (follow up). At the end of your answer, you mentioned that you thought all bible prophecy including the 2nd coming would be fulfilled by the end of 2018. I’m curious as to how you came up with that particular date.

A Pause Just Before The 2nd Coming? Why?

Q. I know it’s only speculative and, perhaps, unfair to ask, but it appears that God has given you a degree of discernment most others lack.  That said, do you have any thoughts about God’s purpose for the Sign of the Son to be in the heavens for some unknown period between the end of the Great Tribulation and His Second Coming?

I Come When You Do Not Expect Me

Q. What does it mean, “I come when you least expect it”?  it seems to me a lot of people are expecting Him at any time.  You can forward a link if you’ve already written a piece on it.

Will Babylon Be Ready? Follow up

Q. In your 8-6-09 Article regarding “Will Babylon Be Ready” you stated that we are several years away from conditions being right for the start of Daniel’s 70th week. It is my understanding that there is nothing in the Bible that would indicate a several year gap between the rapture of the church and the start of Daniel’s 70th week. Therefore, keeping in mind that no one knows the day or the hour that God will call for his people, it does sound like you are implying that we are still several years away from the rapture taking place.

A Secret Rapture Or Not?

Q. I have read of a post-Trib believer stating that the idea of a secret Rapture is self-refuting, because the verse widely used to support the idea of the Rapture, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, clearly describes a very loud event– shouts, trumpets, people getting out of graves… and according to the author of this article, this noise will be heard by everyone across the world.  So this must be describing the Second Coming of Christ, which is seen by everyone across the world “like lightning from the east of the sky to the west.”  Is it possible that the Rapture will be loud?
